In the most recent issue of the Consumer Reports magazine, there is a section for camera buyers, and specifically compact digital camera buyers. If you are at all familiar with Consumer Reports, you probably trust their evaluations as being unbiased and sound. The reviewers at Consumer Reports chose about 10 cameras that they could recommend. And of those choices, only one was given the "top choice" check mark.

That's correct, it was the Canon Powershot SX110 IS compact digital camera.

This little camera has been on the market since August '08. Not that long in human years, but in the life of a camera, that could be an eternity. Technology and megapixels are changing rapidly, and Canon has released another camera as an upgrade to the Canon SX110. It is the Canon Powershot SX200 IS.

While the newer SX200 IS is another great camera, and it is getting high user reviews, the "older brother" continues to sell well and get even higher reviews.

Perhaps it is important for you as a financially discerning camera buyer that the price of the SX110 has fallen about $100 with the advent of the newer model. This always happens when a new model is released. However, this does not mean that the older camera does not perform well. It is not the smallest compact, but it is still small enough to fit into a pocket or purse. The 10x zoom gives the camera a great range. So it would be an excellent choice for travel.
