History

Arbonne International began in 1975 in Switzerland by Petter Mørck. In addition to his labors, other top herbalists, bio-chemists and biologists produced skin care products based on botanical principals. They wanted to make natural products that were extraordinary in quality, effectiveness, safety, and value.

The company in due course started selling products worldwide and at last reached the United States in 1980. The American headquarters and distribution warehouse for independent distribution are located in Irvine, California. They now rival Avon and Mary Kay with annual sales of approaching $35 million.

Products

The Arbonne health and beauty products consist of safe interior and exterior. They distribute top quality skin care, nutritional, cosmetic, and aromatherapy products.

Arbonne items are all vegan certified. Testing for their formulas are never done on animals and consist of all-natural herbal and botanical ingredients. Arbonne believes in full disclosure and continues to provide full ingredient lists for each and every one of their products.

Distribution and Structure

Arbonne products are sold through a network of Independent Consultants. Each Consultant is based and trained in the superior level of Arbonne principals. Consultants are provided with cash and product rewards, sales incentives, travel opportunity and a SuccessPlan to help them reach their income goals.

When a Consultant signs up, they receive training and support right away. A precise Independent Consultant code of ethics is mandatory to be maintained by every Consultant. You can become an Arbonne Independent Consultant on 2 different levels; Preferred Client or Consultant.

Preferred Clients must purchase a $29 starter kit, which includes a catalog, manual, brochure and product samples. They additionally receive 20% discount on products. The Preferred Client also has access to monthly product specials and promotions.

For a new consultant, they have got to purchase a starter kit ($109) containing basic items including marketing aids; action plans, presentation charts, and prospecting packs. A carry bag is also provided for the starter pack. Those who want to start at the Consultant level receive 35% discount off product prices.

From either of these two starting positions; individuals can advance to higher positions, such as area manager and regional vice president.

Not only can a consultant receive commissions on products sales, they can also qualify for downline commissions and bonuses from the multi-level team sales efforts.

Anyone successful in Mary Kay Cosmetics?

How did you get started, how do you create business and make money? What tips/advice do you have for newbies?

Got to love the person who responds negatively with an agenda to throw another company out there.

Though I did not do Mary Kay, I know many who have, some successfully, others not. BUT I have done other home party type businesses and the basics are the same.

You start with your warm market - friends and family and ask for referrals of their friends and families. Some consultants are aggressive and some are not. The ones I have seen succeed have been the most aggressive.

Not everyone is a potential prospect or recruit but in all these plans you are told to ask anyway. After you run out of your warm market and referrals, then you have to get a bit more creative and invoke the 3' rule. If they're breathing and have a pulse - talk to them.

I was a consultant in my business for 2 years. It was a struggle the entire way, but there again, I am not a real aggressive person. I am sure my up line would have told me I wasn't working hard enough and in her eyes, by her example, I was not, but I don't like chasing people down and hounding them or throwing myself out there to strangers either.

Back in February of this year, a friend of mine pleaded with me to come to a Mary Kay party she was hosting. I don't wear makeup and luckily I was going to be out of town so did not have to make up an excuse or drag myself to something that was of no interest to me. In May she contacted me again. Seems no one showed up, this consultant had been 'ragging' (her words- not mine) her to have a party for over a year, would I PLEASE come. I did and didn't buy anything. I don't really know if I was doing her a favor by showing up or not and the sales were not that great. Mainly the hostess and her daughter bought. Seems that everyone else who came was just doing the 'friend thing' for the hostess.

These are just some of the 'realities' of home parties that consultants don't talk about because they are not good for business.

If you are real aggressive and or have a VERY large circle of influence you may have a great start. If you don't, then it might be a struggle. One other thing you need to find out is whether you have a ton of Mary Kay reps already in your area. It's like Avon... there's possibly two or three on every corner already.
