Getting an agency to represent you is hard for some and easy for others. Only a handful of agencies will take a chance on you if you have the model look they want. After all, it is hard to get an agent to represent you if you don't have any experience.

What do you do? If you are absolutely serious about modeling and this is your lifelong dream you have to be creative, persistent, and focused.

The key to this is you have to network like crazy and use the social media to your advantage. You must join some of the networking communities such as Face Book, and Model Mayhem and enter as many contests as possible. These days everyone has a contest. Try to stay clear of the ones that want a registration fee and if in doubt contact the Better Business Bureau and visit Rip Off Report. Get on the Internet and start searching. Goggle and Bing are two of my favorite search engines that I use too much success.

Contact the hair companies, department stores that put on fashion shows, and read the fashion magazines. Look on the back of your favorite beauty products and contact that company and inquire about model calls and annual contests. Hair companies need models to display the latest looks, you can find out what agencies the department stores use and the magazines are filled with contests most of which you can enter on-line by submitting a picture. Another untapped area is the nightlife in your city.

Most promoters like to have beautiful women at their parties and usually important people attend these events. Find out who are having the parties in your area. Most promoters send out email blasts so you need to get on their list. Check http://www.metromix.com if you don't know where to begin for nightlife entertainment. Register with http://www.actorsaccess.com to get access to modeling jobs everywhere. This is what all of the agencies are using nowadays.

Be prepared to offer your services as a free lance model by having some pictures, business cards, and possibly a website available at all times.

Giving the state of the economy any company will entertain a free-lance model that's professional and confident because they can save a lot of money by cutting out the agency and their fees.

By becoming a Free Lance Model first, you can gain the experience and build your confidence before seeking agency representation. It is not easy and if it were everyone would be doing it. The scariest part of free-lancing is that you have to make sure you are not signing away your rights by signing a contract. You should never sign anything without having a professional look at it first. A contract can make sense, but one simply word can change the entire meaning of one.
