Eye Shadow

There is a science to just about everything; applying eye shadow is no different. It is made in colors designed to complement the eye color of the wearer. It is a fun way to highlight the eyes. Usually more than one shade is sold in a pack. The shades are usually in complimenting tones, using the shadow to bring out the eyes requires certain steps to be followed, below is a brief synopsis of how to apply it.

Step 1 Prepping

Eye lids normally have natural creases and folds, there needs to be some preparatory work to make sure the eye shadow can adhere to the eye lids properly without making the creases and folds more obvious. There are bases and powders that can be applied to the eye lids to get them ready for the eye shadow. Concealer will hide and imperfections in the tone of the skin on the eye lids and even things out. Once the foundation is set then applying the eye shadow will be much easier it will glide on and stay put.

Step 2 Applying

Step two is the actual application of the colored eye shadow. The lightest of the color palette should be applied first. The entire lid to the brow bone should be covered. The darker shade will then be applied in the crease of the eyelid, if a third color is desired this can be added to half the eyelid at the farthest part away from the nose. This third color should be a shade that is in between the lightest and the darkest shade used on the eye lids. Once all the colors are added a soft brush or small sponge tip applicator should be used to blend all the colors together. Blending the colors should be done a little bit at a time with light strokes so as not to remove the color.

Final Step

The final step in how to apply shadow is to set it all using a little face powder, setting the shadow will help with its staying power.

Applying eye shadow the correct way will leave a natural enhanced look and not a overly made up look. On every shadow set that is sold there is brief instructions usually with a diagram explaining how to apply shadow, these tips are good advice and with some practice even a novice will be an expert in a short period of time.
