Brushes Applicators

Painting textured ceilings can be quite the ordeal. Whether it's popcorn, acoustic or knockdown before you go near these things in older homes there is a chance of asbestos so definitely get that checked out before moving ahead.

The best way to paint these sort of ceilings is with an airless sprayer, but as that isn't always a solution let's take a look at how to paint ceilings conventionally. First you're going to want some protective gear, because there is a chance that this stuff flies everywhere when you're rolling it. Go find some good protective goggles, a hat, long-sleeve shirt and pants you don't mind getting covered in painted chunks of ceiling texture. If you've got a huge ceiling area to paint you might also want to pick up your analgesic of choice for the headache/neck pain!

The following are the crucial painting tools for this job:

• 1 x 3" paint brush
• 1 x 3" foam roller applicator
• 1 x 9" roller cage with 1" nap roller sleeve
• 1 x 6' extension pole
• 1 x paint tray
• Drop cloths to cover the floor as this will be messy
• Plastic to protect any furniture or other large immovable items
• Any kind of ceiling paint will do in this situation

To do the edges of the ceiling you'll use the 3" foam paint roller and the paint brush. I'm going to assume you are painting the walls after the ceiling as this is the best way to take care of these ceilings. First super-saturate the foam roller and begin rolling the edges in small 2'-3' lengths that only slightly overlap, apply a lot of paint to minimize re-rolling the area. As the texture gets moist it will want to pull away from the surface and this is where a lot of the troubles happen, the surface pulls away and thinking you missed a spot you re-roll only creating more of a mess. So try to apply the paint quickly and keep on moving, that's why it's best to saturate your foam roller with a ton of paint as this gets the job done quickly by filling in the texture. Use the brush to get right into the corner where the ceiling meets the wall and to cut-in around any light fixtures or other objects. Also, use the paint brush to clean up any paint gobs that may get on the wall. Be sure to smooth any paint that gets onto the wall out so that it doesn't create drips, sags or surface irregularities later, a rag can also work for this purpose.

Once you've got the edges painted it's time to fill in the ceiling, this is where the roller comes into play. This is very similar to painting the edge of the ceiling. Super saturate your roller, you basically want paint to be pouring off your roller when you lift it out of the pan, let the excess drip off and then carefully bring it up to the ceiling. This is where all the protective gear, drop cloths and plastic come into to play since painting ceilings can be messy business. Make sure if your work area isn't clear that you've got everything covered, safe and secure. Apply the paint quickly in small 2'-3' square patches, slightly overlapping the edges to provide a consistent end result. You should get the hang of it after a few patches; paint the patches in 3 or 4 roll strokes maximum and just keep on moving. Typically one coat is sufficient on ceilings but in some situations you may need another.

Do makeup brushes really affect how your make-up comes out?

Most of the makeup i buy already comes with an applicator. Can't i still get a decent look using the applicators? How much does the applicator i use affect my makeup dramatically? Cause I also noticed when i am watching "how to apply makeup videos" on the brands website the artist themselves don't even use the same applicators. Soooooo...does it really matter?

i mean for everyday use it's fine not to use every single brush such as a lip brush, contour brush, foundation brush, eyeliner brush etc.

i think a blush brush, and a blending brush[to blend eyeshadow] are the most important in my opinion!

if you don't wear eyeshadow that much then don't bother with the blending brush
