How to Treat Seborrheic Dermatitis

 

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition usually affecting the scalp. It causes the scalp to be itchy, scaly, crusty, red and greasy, and often with white or yellowish scales.   It is generally present on the scalp, but may also be on other areas of the body where oil is present. This may include areas of the face, behind the ears, upper chest, groin area, and creases behind the knees and elbows. 

 

Seborrheic dermatitis is not dangerous but can be extremely itchy, uncomfortable, and unsightly. Generally it can be treated at home with the right products. Many products you find at the drugstore contain chemicals such as salicylic acid. These chemicals may actually dry the scalp out too much causing symptoms to worsen. Natural ingredients that clean the scalp and then balance the oil on the scalp are preferable. Zinc is an excellent ingredient to do just that. It works to completely clean the area and then regulate the sebum gland. The sebum gland produces oil on the scalp.   It is important that the sebum gland is working properly to create just the right amount of oil. Seborrheic dermatitis and other scalp conditions or problems can occur with either a too oily or overly dry scalp. 

 

When infants experience seborrheic dermatitis it is also called cradle cap. For infants it does not usually itch like it does for adults, but it is unsightly and many parents do not like the way it looks on their child's scalp. It will usually clear up on its own within a few months, but in the interim the baby's scalp and hair can be washed daily with a mild all natural shampoo. Scales can be loosened with a soft bristled brush while washing.   

There are over 15 medicated shampoos available but the products getting the best response are the shampoos and conditioners that help to ph the scalp while also regulating the amount of oil that the scalp produces. The medicated shampoos do not do this.  Burdock and Zinc work as an amazing tandem to halt the scales and itching associated with Seborrhea. The zinc also stops excess, not all, but excess oil production by the sebum gland in each and every hair follicle. This is important since the oil is what makes the seb derm grow out of control.

Warren Delay is one of the few scalp experts and has helped hundreds with seborrheic dermatitis or scalp dermatitis. He believes that all seborrheic dermatitis treatments are better when natural based. The medicated shampoos and treatments such as coal tar shampoos can be harmful long term. But the natural botanical based shampoos and conditioners get better results with every use. problems such as dandruff, itchy scalp, scalp fungus and other problems such as scalp acne or pimples that can plague people with hair follicles that have become plugged.

anyone else use art brushes to apply makeup?

i have an art (like painting) brush set (never used for anything but makeup) with natural hairs and i actually prefer them to the mac brushes. they are sooooooo soft am i the only one?

I've been using artist brushes for years, I have some great Bobbie Brown make up brushes too, but I love my art ones!
