The concept of mineral makeup

Mineral makeup is done using cosmetics which are made up of natural substances. It has come as a healthier alternative to the regular chemical based synthetic makeup which causes several side effects with their artificial components.Mineral cosmetics contain no dyes, perfumes or chemicals. These are basically made using naturally occurring minerals in their powder forms.

Origin

The term 'mineral makeup' was coined in the 1970s, a time when people were more biased towards natural things and the women especially, loved to wear natural makeup. It was originally sold in the bath and body boutiques. It was only in 1998 that mineral makeup got noticed when the popular cosmetics company Bare Escentuals started to sell them. Then the company entered into a joint venture with the QVC television network to make this makeup more easily available to the masses. This instantly became a hit and more and more companies offering this make up started mushrooming.

True makeup

Mineral makeup is available in several types be it the form of foundation, blush, lipstick or eye shadow. True makeup is one which is contains cent percent natural ingredients with not more than five ingredients in one cosmetic item. Besides, it also uses a combination of plant extracts, waxes and natural oils.

Merits

• It is excellent for those who need light coverage.

• These cosmetics also contain titanium dioxide as one of their key ingredients which works as an anti-inflammatory agent and reduces acne.

• It is biodegradable and there are no chances of any skin damaging effects on using these.

• It is often recommended by dermatologists as these are perfect for sensitive skin.

• These cosmetics do not clog skin pores or fill wrinkles.

Demerits

•Being very light makeup mineral cosmetics aren't very effective in concealing blemishes.

•Besides, they have a tendency to wear off easily.

•Many of the times, it can have a drying effect on the skin, leaving an ashy appearance on the surface of the skin.

Bare Escentuals or Everday Minerals??

I have had nothing but problems with bare escentuals (bare minerals). From the beginning I was disappointed by the minimal coverage. It didn't look like I was wearing it because it didn't cover. I have normal skin. Not too dry and not oily. It dried my skin and made it itchy. I had a hard time finding a shade of foundation that matched and when I did it didn't last very long. I had to reapply at least twice per day.
I'm not sure if any one else had this problem? So then I heard there were other brands that were comparable and it seems the Everyday Minerals are the closest or even better. They have lots of shades. I am waiting to find out what I think til I have had more time to get opinions.

Everyday Minerals is great! I have problem skin and the bismuth oxychloride in Bare Minerals made me break out. All mineral makeup has the same application process: swirl, tap, buff. You should do that until you gain the coverage you would like. I mix my EM foundation with a little bit of EM multi tasking concealer for the best coverage. It does "heal" my skin like BM claims to do, but my skin has not broken out as much as it did before. For normal skin you want the Semi-Matte formula or Intensive.
