Every bride wants their attendants to be looking and feeling their best when their wedding day rolls around. A super popular way brides are ensuring this happens these days is to hold a spa party. The big downside here is that they can be extremely expensive. Consider this - a standard facial and manicure at a salon can run $100 a piece ore more! Not great news for those trying to pull off a wedding on a budget. When you add in the hairstyling, pedicures, massages, and professional make up artists, you are really talking big bucks.

The groom his groomsmen have it much easier as they generally only need to grab a quick haircut. That's an expense normally borne by the groomsmen themselves. But when it comes to the woman, who's paying for the day at the spa really comes down to how adamant the bride is on her attendants having a specific look.

For example, if you want each attendant to have a fancy hairdo and coordinated makeup, you should be the one paying for those services. However, if the spa party is more for the entertainment, each attendant can pay their own way, or decide not to attend if the cost is too high. The bottom line is that if the trip to the spa is sort of a mandatory situation, the bride needs to pay up.

Something else to consider when it comes to a trip to the spa for your bridesmaids - you can consider it as a thank you gift for all of their efforts, helping you get additional value out of your budget.

There are some ways you can help cut down on the expense of hairstyling and makeup costs -

1. Assuming your bridesmaids live near you, why not have practice parties where you can try different hairstyles and makeup?

Take plenty of pictures of these parties, so you'll easily be able to replicate the various hairstyles and makeup on your wedding day. This tip can save you plenty!

2. Schedule a makeup party with a beauty rep.

Folks that sell Avon or Mary Kay are usually more than happy to run a makeup party for you. Even if you don't end up buying anything, the rep has some additional folks to pitch her products to at a later time, but more importantly, you and your party will be able to pick up some worthwhile techniques for you wedding day. As these parties are essential sales presentations, there is no cost for them. Again, saving you plenty.

3. Don't be shy about asking a friend ore relative who's a makeup expert to handle your bridal party's hair and makeup.

No need for this person to be a professional, but if you've know someone who is very good in these areas, ask them to handle this for you as a wedding gift to you. If you are able to work something out like this, there is no need to tip the person doing the job because it's a gift from them to you. However, a thank you gift along with a nice note would indeed be appropriate. Think of the money this person could save you!

If you decide to go all out and schedule a spa party, be sure that you understand all the terms and conditions. A number of spas will include staff gratuities in their pricing, but sales tax is rarely included. It's not uncommon for there to be a 50% non refundable deposit assessed at the time of booking. Also, keep in mind that if you need to have your spa party held at a time outside of their normal business hours, or you ask for it to be held at your home, you'll pay extra.
