MAC makeup brushes are, hands down, the best ones you can buy. But are the ones you have a fake? Unless you actually bought it at a MAC store or through the official website, you might have purchased a knock-off.

Is There Silver Metal?
One of the big purveyors of fake MAC brushes actually makes it very easy to tell it's a fake. The reason? There isn't any silver colored metal on the brush -- they are all black.
Real MAC makeup brushes have an area of silver metal connecting the brush hairs to the handle.
Where is the Name?
The new MAC brushes have the MAC name towards the silver metal area. If you see a new brush with the MAC name centered on the handle, it's a tip-off for being a fake.
One thing to note here, though -- some of the older-style MAC brushes did have the name on the center of the handle. But since these brushes are so popular, the chances of you getting a genuine old brush that's never been used is somewhere between minuscule and non-existent.
How Dense are the Hairs?
One of the hallmarks of MAC is that the makeup brushes are dense bristles. The brushes are soft, but they are so densely packed that it's not easy (and impossible for some) to bend the bristles to the side.
If you can pretty easily bend the bristles, or the brush head is thick but not dense, there is an excellent chance you have a fake.
How Much Did You Pay?
These wonderful makeup brushes are not cheap; even one of the least expensive brushes is more than $15, and most cost over $20 each. In fact, the 134 large powder brush is $52 all by itself!
So when you see a set of 12 "MAC" brushes being sold for $45, you know it has to be a fake!
Did You Buy it on eBay?
While there might be a few sellers on eBay of honest-to-goodness-real MAC brushes, the vast majority are knock offs. Do yourself a favor; don't go to eBay and expect to see the real deal.
You Have a Fake -- Now What?
Well, if it's a brush that you use and like, then just keep on using it. Then one day when it falls apart (the fakes aren't made nearly as well), you can go and get yourself a real MAC makeup brush.
Some of the fakes are really quite decent in their own right, and if you didn't pay much money for them, why not go ahead and use them?
If, however, you paid a lot for a fake, and you bought it recently, try to return it.
Cleaning Your Makeup Brush (Whoever Made It)
Now that you have your makeup brushes, whether by MAC, Sephora, Bare Escentuals, Smashbox or "maker unknown", you do need to clean them now and again.

So I'm one of those weird girls who likes to wear makeup at the beach lol (unless it's really hot). Would this be a good makeup look for the beach, or would it be too much?
-very thin layer of foundation to even out skin tone and concealer for dark circles/blemishes
-light dusting of Bare Escentuals finishing powder with spf 25
-VS bronzer/blush on cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin
-NARS Albatross highlighter on tips of cheek bones
-(eyes) nude color on lids, brown color to define crease
-gel eyeliner only on top lid, very thin line just to define lashline
-waterproof mascara
-fill in brows a little with brow pencil
-MAC lipgloss (over spf 15 lip balm)
It sounds like a lot listed out, but I'm using very little of each product. Tips? Things to add or not to do?
Sounds cute. Make sure to use a strong eyeshadow base if you're going in the water (if it splashes or something), and make sure to set your eyeliner with a powder so it doesn't melt off.
If you want to go a bit more fun, try using a turquoise or teal eyeshadow wet (mix water or a mixing medium with a powder eyeshadow) on the outer half of the lower lashline, very lightly so it's subtle, and then put mascara on the bottom lashes.

Mascara is great for making thin lashes stand out, or adding an additional pop to already thick lashes. It's far cheaper and easier to use than fake lashes, which makes it a great thing to add to your quick morning routine.
If you curl your eyelashes (and you should!), it's best to curl them before applying mascara. Trying to curl your lashes after applying mascara usually results in mascara all over your eyelash curler, and not on your lashes where it belongs.
Start by pulling the mascara brush out of the tube, and placing it at the base of the lashes. Wiggle it back and forth to place mascara at the roots of your eyelashes. Darkening the base of the eyelashes is how mascara makes lashes seem thicker. This is also why techniques such as tightlining work so well.
After you've deposited a bit of mascara at the base of the lashes, pull the mascara towards their ends, to reduce clumping. Then, close your eye and brush mascara over the tops of the lashes, further reducing clumping. You should have a nice, even application of mascara at this point. Once you have applied the mascara, wait a few seconds before opening your eyelashes, or else you'll sling mascara on your eyes.
Mascara is one of those things that doesn't keep permanently. If you notice a change in odor of your mascara, or it starts applying differently, throw it out and buy a new one. Most mascaras keep for anywhere between 6 weeks to 3 months, so plan on replacing them before they go bad.

One of the biggest questions that is asked by people that apply makeup on a regular basis is how often they should be cleaning their makeup brushes. The answer may be surprising to most while not surprising at all to others - You should clean your makeup brushes as often as possible.
There is no real right or wrong answer to this question, because your makeup brushes are not going to go stale or anything if they pass a certain date, but when you have dirty makeup brushes, dirty powder puffs and dirty sponges, you should realize that a lot of bacteria has been accumulated. Even if you apply makeup after you cleanse, your skin will still have some sort of oil, adding even more bacteria to the tools. If you don't clean your tools on a regular basis, they are not all together very good for your skin.
In many cases, some makeup application tools like powder puffs and sponges are simply disposable, and so you can simply replace them as needed. Puffs and sponges typically do not dry out very well after they are cleaned and so it would be simpler and more cost effective for you to simply replace them as needed. The same is not true for your cosmetic brushes however, especially if you are working with a quality caliber set.
A dirty makeup brush is going to be not only unhygienic and bad for your skin in general, but also much more likely to worsen breakouts and rashes and other skin issues or to cause more in general. What this means is that you are going to want to clean your makeup brushes fairly regularly in order to remove the build up of makeup, oil, skin cells and bacteria. For most people who apply makeup casually from day to day, cleaning all of your makeup brushes once every two to four weeks is generally going to suffice. If you apply makeup much more often or if you are reapplying several times on a daily basis, then it would be wise for you to step this schedule up a bit, cleaning your brushes weekly or at least biweekly.
There are a number of different brush cleaning options that are available on the market. There are two excellent brands of makeup cleaners that are well worth bringing up, which are Pink Soap and Master Brush Cleaner. Both of them are capable of cleaning your brushes really well and rinsing out easily. You are going to find them in any high quality art supply store or cosmetic store.
It is also possible for you to simply use a high quality shampoo product. Make sure that you allow the brushes ample time to air dry. It is not recommended that you use artificial means to speed up the drying process because heat can damage your brushes in the same way that it can damage your own hair. Heat may also cause the glue binding the brushes to their handles to melt, which can cause the brushes to fall apart or otherwise become destroyed.
As night cream can nourish the skin without resorting to the effects of chemicals, it is critical to apply eye creams to the most delicate area of the face. In order to beautify skin to the fullest, one must develop the use of mineral makeup and natural lip balm into a routine.
Mineral makeup vs liquid foundation?
I see mineral makeup advertised a lot these days, but I usually prefer a liquid foundation if I do wear makeup.
Has anyone here recently tried mineral makeup and if so, how did you find it in terms of how it blends, how it lasts? Would you say it's better than liquid? Worse? Worth trying?
I was the same as you- liquid all the way.
I then tried bare minerals and hated it! It caked on my face, didn't have a good selection of colours and just felt dry.
So i went back to using liquid foundation.
I have sensitive skin though, so I was really wanting to find a good mineral foundation due to irritations or breakouts from certain liquid foundations (mac in particular!!!! Grrr)
So yeah, after a wee bit of research I came across the brand lily lolo
(It's a UK brand)
And it's fantastic
I find, when it is applied correctly- it covers well, it gives me the same coverage as liquid foundation (and it's buildable without becoming cakey), it doesn't irritate my skin- in fact it has been looking better and it seems to give my face a fresh glow.
However, I stick to my cream concealers, I don't like mineral concealers.
But the foundation and blush is just great.
I still use liquid foundation at certain times, like in the winter when my skin is a bit drier than normal.
Or if i'm going out clubbing or to some event where lots of drinking and dancing will be taking place- i somehow trust liquid to stay longer through that.
However, yesterday i was wearing mineral makeup the whole day (with no touch ups) and it was still there 12 hours later.
So i guess if you have dry skin- stick to liquid, otherwise try out the mineral makeup (just not bare minerals)

Unless your skin is absolutely flawless, concealer is a must. So before you use foundation have blemishes and dark circles concealed. The first step in concealing, whether it is dark circles or blemishes is choosing the right concealer. A good concealer does not go on dry and make your skin look cracked but is smooth, creamy and blends easily. Concealers that work best have a yellowish tone.
Dark Circles:
1. Before applying concealer gently pat a light eye cream under the eye to moisturize the skin. Use your ring finger to pat on moisturizer and concealer since the skin in this area is extra delicate and the ring finger, which has the least amount of strength, is less likely to pull or tear.
2. To apply concealer use a concealer brush (similar to a lip brush with soft bristles) to get in those hard to reach areas such as the inner corners of eyes and to get concealer exactly were you want it.
3. Apply the concealer under your eyes up as far as the lash line to the inner corners. Do not apply concealer to you eyelids because your eye shadow will crease. Then, pat to blend with your ring finger.

Both Conair and Wigo are affordable, low cost flat irons that are very popular. There are many flat iron reviews of both brands, often giving conflicting or confusing information as to which would be the better buy. The model that's best depends on the type of hair straightener you're looking for.
No matter which one you buy, you won't be spending more than around $60. Many argue that buying anything for under $100 is a waste of money, but judging by some of the favorable flat iron reviews for both of these models, some would beg to differ. I, for one, think you can buy a perfectly good flat iron for around $50. Sure, if you're a professional stylist or if you use a hair straightener every day, then you would be better off buying a more expensive brand, but if you're on a budget or will just occasionally use one, then buying a Conair or Wigo flat iron is a very sensible option.
Both companies make ceramic flat irons. Wigo make models with 1", 1 3/4" and 2 1/4" plates, all of which are 170 watts, with 50 second heat up times and 12 temperature settings. They also feature separate heating system for each plate that help keep the plates at the set temperature. Each comes with a 9' swivel cord. Finally, all models have a 3 year limited warranty. The price varies from around $50 to $60.
Conair makes a number of ceramic flat irons with plate sizes of 3/4", 1", 1 1/2" and 2". The Professional Instant Heat Straightener with 2" plates heats up in 60 seconds and has 25 variable heat settings. It comes with a useful feature of dual-voltage and a detachable nylon brush - the brush when attached is supposed to comb and guide the hair through the plates, however using it is more of a nuisance than anything else.
There are 2 Conair Infiniti Instant Heat Ceramic iron models; 1" and 2". Both feature a heat up time of 30 seconds, automatic shutoff and an LCD display and an incredible 5 year limited warranty. They retail for around $65 to $70. They're a little bit more expensive than the Wigo, but are definitely a superior product, beating any of the ceramic models on offer from Wigo.
Both companies also make wet to dry models. The Conair Instant Heat 2" ceramic iron retails for around $35 and features 30 second heat up time with 30 temperature settings, dual voltage, automatic shutoff and a 2 year warranty. The company also has a model called the Dry N' Straight. It comes with 1 1/2" plates, 60 second heat up time and 25 variable temperature settings. Again, there's dual voltage and automatic shutoff. It retails for around $35.
The Wigo Damp or Dry flat iron comes with 2" ceramic plates; heat up time of 50 seconds, with 12 variable heat settings. The handle has been ergonomically designed and makes the whole iron look very nice. More importantly, it comes with a 3 year warranty. It's more expensive than the Conair, at around $50, but it is a better appliance and you'd be well advised to spend the extra money on this model rather than any of the two Conair irons.
Both companies make excellent budget hair straighteners. If you're looking for a ceramic model then you should consider the Conair flat iron over that of the Wigo. However, if it's a wet to dry model you're after then the Wigo is of better quality than the Conair flat iron.
