Pendant lighting is a relative newcomer to the market of home lighting fixtures. Although it has been around since the 1940's, this type of lighting is just coming into its own as homes are built with higher ceilings. Although there is no evidence of this, the development of the pendant light was probably a reaction to finding a form of lighting that was less elaborate than the chandelier but that served basically the same function and purpose.
The description of the typical pendant light is a single fixture that hangs from the ceiling from a chain or other kind of supporting device such as a metal rod. They are far less elaborate than the chandelier and rather than having its lights exposed (like a chandelier), the pendant employs a shade of sorts at the end which, in fact, is described as the pendant.
One of the appealing factors of the pendant is its versatility. Pendants can often be found in hallways, small foyers, kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. Narrow areas that need lighting are ideal candidates for a pendant light. The pendant itself is generally completely enclosed, hiding the light fixture itself to avoid glare. Because of its simplicity, the pendant is usually made of a neutral substance employing white or opaque glass.
A slight contradiction in design is worth noting here. One of the more appealing uses of the pendant during the past decade, is in the kitchen. These fixtures are often suspended over a kitchen island or other food preparation area and feature an open-ended bottom through which a soft light is emitted. This is a very attractive feature in the right kind of kitchen because of the even lighting it provides. This type of pendant fixture is also finding its way into other areas of the home.
During its earliest days, the pendant featured a blown glass shell, which eventually evolved into a wide variety of styles. Today, the variety of styles used in pendant lighting is as varied as the styles used in other forms of lighting fixtures. Take a look online or at a fine lighting store or even in a home and garden periodical to see the extent to which this type of lighting has evolved.
One of the mistakes some homeowners make is to try and use a Tiffany style lampshade on a pendant fixture. Don't get me wrong; Tiffany definitely has its place. Floor lamps and table lamps often add a dramatic flair when used with a Tiffany lampshade. The pendant, on the other hand, is designed to be slim and sleek and putting a Tiffany fixture on the end of one defeats the purpose, in my opinion, because you are really mismatching functional styles. I suggest that you stay with the more traditional style of pendant lighting such as something called the Colonial. This impressive fixture features a shade that gives one the appearance of a lantern with a candle inside.
Unlike the chandelier, the pendant doesn't need a long lampshade and an understated look is what to go for.
With all of its advantages and eye appeal, you may be ready to head out to buy one. They are stylish, have a simple elegance, are functional and provide illumination in hard to light areas. There are some things to think about, however, before you make that purchase.
First and foremost, it is essential that you consider what you are planning in terms of the overall decorating of the home's lighting. Pendants can be used as stand alone lighting for a particular area or can be used in combination with other lighting fixtures, particularly in larger areas. Many stores and online dealers offer other lighting fixtures that coordinate with a pendant. These include wall sconces, ceiling fixtures and decorative table lamps.
Pendants are an eye catcher in it's not something you want to cut corners on when considering a purchase. There are tons of styles and configurations available today and with a little persistence, you can find just the right fixture for both your décor and your budget. An inexpensive pendant gives you what you pay for and if it wears out, replacing it can be a chore that you won't relish.
Because of their increased popularity, the pendant can be seen in many modern homes. Don't hesitate to pay a visit to the neighbors or to the model homes, etc. in the area (trust me, many of these model units will use the pendant in a variety of attractive and ingenious ways).
Speed Bag/Double end ball? What purpose do these pieces of equipment serve? Is it all about hand eye coordination, shoulder endurance? Thanks, Killa Kane
What's up Killa!
The purpose of the speed bag is hand eye coordination. The purpose of the double end bag same thing but, you can work on slipping punches as the ball comes back towards you and if you have a double double end bag you can work on your timing with head shots as well as body shots. Both in my opinion are great workouts.

It is no secret that the 80s was definitely an era of loud clothing, hair and over the top 80s makeup. Madonna and Cyndi Lauper kicked off the mainstream looks of the decade and thousands of girls everywhere were frantically trying to look and dress the same. Time has indeed moved on since then and fashions have changed a lot, but what if you want to recreate that look? Here we detail all the essential steps you need to get looking authentically 80s:
1.) Firstly, to start off the 80s makeup look, you need to gather all of your tools of the trade. You will need some eyeliner (preferably black, although other colours work too, it's up to your taste entirely), eye shadow (preferably either a very bright colour or a very dark colour as these will give the best effect), mascara, liquid foundation, powder, eyelash curler, makeup brushes and of course - lip gloss.
2.) Now you need to wash your face so that it is clean. Use a mild cleanser for this and make sure that your face is properly clean using warm water. Next, please ensure that your face is fully dry before applying the 80s makeup, it just won't work doing it on a damp/wet face.
3.) Next, cover up any blemishes (such as under-eye circles and other dark spots) using the liquid foundation. Whatever you do, don't try and cover up and spots and pimples by caking the foundation on them, this will look silly. For best results, apply the makeup with a proper makeup sponge. Using the cheap one that comes with the makeup or your fingers will not look as good.
4.) Take your 80s makeup brush, and apply powder all over your face. Try and make sure that you get a good even finish and that it is blended in properly.
5.) Now, using the eyeliner colour of your choice, apply some eyeliner to your top and bottom eyelids and also to the area of skin directly beneath your eyes. Make sure that you put on a significant amount - because you now need to smear it. Using your fingers, gently smear the makeup to give that great 80s look. One good tip you can use to stop it dripping is to brush some black eye shadow over the liner, it works a treat.
6.) Using the eyelash curler, curl your eyelashes upwards until they stay up by themselves. Then use the mascara to brush it onto the lashes, slowly and going up until you achieve that great striking 80s makeup look.
7.) The eye shadow can be applied as you would naturally; it's up to you how you do it as you will have your own preferences on how you go about it. Although make sure that it at least comes up to your brow line for maximum effect.
8.) Go ahead and finish the look off by applying the lip gloss, preferably it will be the glittery, frosted type that will really finish the whole look off nicely.
9.) Go wild with your hairspray and tease your hair until it looks as you want it. Then, your 80s makeup is complete.

What is the best way to apply makeup to your eyes?
my eyes are small with long lashes, and i just dont know how to bring them out on my face.
i would curl ur lashes, dont use mascara if they are already long.
use a liquid or pencil eyeliner( i prefer liquid) on the outer corners of ur eyes, not all the way around the eye. use a very sheer light eye shadow, silvery, gold or brown, peach, skin color, pink
thats all you really have to do =]

Roberto Cavalli was born on November 15th, 1940 in Italy. He came from a modest family with strong artistic talents and traditions. His grandfather had been an impressionist painter, his mother a tailor.
Cavalli began his career as a young student. Himself and his friend invented, experimented and designed. His first revolutionary creation was a process of printing on light-weight leather.
His print house was a cross between a craftsman's workshop and an artist's studio. He was able to accomplish this because of his detailed fabric research and his continuous experimenting with different technologies.
Eventually Cavalli patented the process of printing on leather. Over the next ten years he created what's known as "patchwork" or "patch quilt" a result of sewing together odd pieces of leather together. During the 1970's Roberto Cavalli gained international recognition, This was the true beginning of his career.
In 1972 Roberto Cavalli showed his first collection in the historic White Room of Palazzo Pitti in Florence which led to a real scandal. On the catwalk his models were wearing patchwork on denim. Denim was a fabric that was highly disregarded by the straight-laced.
A scorpio true to heart, Cavalli simply refused to bow to the dictatorship of the prevailing fashion. Rather he chose to run as an outsider defending his creativity all the way.
In the early 1990s Roberto Cavalli with the assistance of his wife Eva Duringer, relaunched his challenge to the fashion system. He took his catwalk extravaganza to MilanoCollezioni.
Over the years he has expanded and as well as his Womenswear collection, new lines have been launched: Menswear, Just Cavalli a line for youngsters, Underwear, Class which is a knitwear collection, Freedom his casual line, Eyewear, Timewear, Angels for children 4-14) and Homewear.
An inspiration to the international jet-set, Roberto Cavalli is eclectic, social and ironic by nature, as a designer he sets himself apart through his natural vivaciousness and extreme cordiality, as well as his proverbial hospitality.
He loves to surround himself with friends to celebrate not only his successes but even the smallest occasion: He is known for his brilliant career and as equally as well for his spectacular parties
Roberto Cavalli is a mainstay among the famous international designers. He continues to enjoy and have a blast each and every day. He stated recently "I've been running after success my whole life. It took me 35 years but I finally caught it and I'm happy now."
In today's world everyone knows his name! His fashions are known for their raucous elegance, ridiculous embellishment, and shameless sexiness. Cavalli feels that too many designers were designing into the mold of sellable.
Roberto Cavalli never fell into that trap, he consistently and continuously designed outside the box. Cavalli says "Every day I go to work to create what I think of as a form of art, but art that only comes to life when it is worn by a woman at her strongest moment, when she is feeling free, in love with her life and her self."
We an expect to see Cavalli's designs continue to hit the catwalk. Visit Robert Cavalli's Official Fashion Site for more

Colder temperatures bring out heavier fabrics and more layers in our clothing. We shelve our light and bright summer outfits in exchange for darker, more muted neutrals and cozy sweaters. It follows that, as our clothing becomes heavier, so would our makeup colours switch from barely there bronzed to deeper shades of neutrals. Your look would be out of balance with a ribbed V-neck sweater, tweed menswear-inspired pants, and boots with pale lip gloss, shimmery champagne eye shadow and bronzer for blush. As Fall approaches, go ahead and take some risks with a darker eye shadow and deeper lip colours. Balance your overall look by having your cosmetic colours and clothing in the same "weight".
Makeup trends on the runway and in magazines are not always appropriate for a woman in her 40's or more. As I research with the experts for the leading trends, one Fall trend is a "no eyebrow" look: very dark smouldering eye makeup, matte skin, and matte nude lip colour. Can you imagine that combination on yourself?! Two dark, deep eyes with a pasty pale face, and lips that fade into your cheeks. Puh-leeze! Be aware of the source of your makeup trend advice as it may be intended for a much younger audience - like your 18 year old daughter. Rule #1 as you get older is to be discerning as to where you get advice about fashion, hair, and makeup. One such makeup trend is the 80's, punk rock fashion in neon colours with bold eye and lip colours that scream for attention. I have always taught (and still endorse) that if you were around for it the first time, it is not for you the second time. That doesn't mean you can't take one or two cues from the trend, but head-to-toe 80's is definitely OUT for the 40+ woman. After extensive research, watching the runway fashion shows, and from personal experience, here are Looking Your Best Inc.'s Top 5 Makeup Trends that are sure to leave you feeling beautiful, confident, and attractively age appropriate:
1. Strong eyebrows: Eyes are the communicators! They lift with delight and excitement! They show surprise, fear, sincerity and sadness. Expressive eyes without perfectly groomed brows is the #1 makeup mistake after not using skin care. If you only have time for one makeup routine, best to shape and fill in your brows with one shade darker than your hair colour. It will bring attention to your eyes, frame your face, balance a heavy jaw line or a full face, and give definition to a slim, pale face. Brows are the overlooked facial feature that demand attention this fall.
2. Smoky eyes: Fall makeup is dark and dramatic, which is easily accomplished with a smoky eye shadow application. "Smoky eye" doesn't necessarily mean black and dark and Goth. Smoky refers to the technique rather than the colour. Choose your best dark colour: if you are blonde, it will be a medium shade; a redhead or brunette's shade will be darker. Concentrate the darkness near the lash line and fade to above the crease. Try this season's colours of coppers, golds, and browns. For an added touch of sophistication, match your eye shadow with your nail colour. Oh tres chic!
3. False eyelashes: This doesn't have to look like a chorus line showgirl lash. When applied correctly, it makes sparse, thin, short lashes look naturally long and full. Luscious is the word to focus on. Skip costume-looking lashes with sparkles and funky lengths. Choose a natural looking set of lash strips. Cut the strip in half and apply on the outer edge for a flirty rich detail to your eyes. Now, this is drama!
4. Black mascara: Dark and dramatic makeup for Fall needs luscious lashes. Apply mascara to the base of your lashes sweeping left to right, then brush to the tips. To avoid clumps, be sure to wash your mascara off every night, then reapply to clean lashes in the morning. Take your time and apply meticulously.
5. Luscious lips: Lipstick is the match that lights the face! Get over the nude lip and add some colour! Try this season's deep burgundy, plum browns, or 80's inspired hot pink! Yes, it might draw more attention than you are used to - but trust me, you will look fresh and well rested rather than pale and tired. Your lipstick colour didn't draw comments because it was bland and didn't warrant comments - it made you look older and worn out. Fashion magazines would have us keep a quieter lip with the smoky eye, but quieter doesn't mean pale and washed out.
This season's makeup trends are dark and dramatic for a bold sophisticated look of confidence! Looking Your Best Inc. offers private makeup lessons and instructional application techniques to incorporate all of these trends without looking trashy or age inappropriate. This is a charming-magical movie about the age-old topic of believing in Santa Claus and the magic of Christmas.
It stars the lovely Nicole De Boer (Cube, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) as Liz McCann a Real Estate Agent who doesn't believe in Christmas but sees it just as any other holiday, and would rather be working.
However she is a single mother to young Mason, played by Gig Morton, who is eagerly in the festive spirit. While at work Liz gets a phone call from her father played by Gary Chalk (Stargate SG-1), inviting her and Mason to come along and pay him a visit at Hollyville and celebrate Christmas with him, she initially declines as she remembers her dad never celebrated Christmas.
It so happens that her dad phones again while they are at home, and asks her a second time, Mason happens to be around, and not wanting to dash his hopes she agrees.
On their trip they are unable to find Hollyville, until the car breaks down and Mason spots a reindeer in the woods, Liz doesn't see the reindeer and dismisses it, while she runs after Mason they both see Hollyville lighted up in the midst of all the trees.
On arriving at the town Liz is extremely surprised to find her father working at the local restaurant where everyone seems so happy, she has never seen her father so happy and friendly, and at one point she asks him "Who are you and what have you done to my dad"?
It so happens her father would like to make up for all the years he was never any good at making her happy especially during Christmas, and he would like to make this Christmas special not just for his grandson but for his daughter too.
Mason on the other hand has found some surprising discoveries, the quiet town is home to N.P. Enterprises short for North Pole Enterprises, whose business seems to be transport all over the globe.
There is also the case of a mysterious sleigh the local mechanic is fixing that is considered top secret, and characters that could easily be ascribed to those of elves. Of course Liz finds all this hard to believe, but Mason is eager to prove his mother wrong and make her a believer, while there is potential for some romance for Liz from Kevin (played by Paul Muldoon [Starship Troopers], his mannerisms are a lot similar to Rob Lowe), the boss of the diner her father works at.
It is a lovely magical movie the entire family will enjoy.
I'm 13 and want to start wearing some light makeup. I have been with friends and worn some mascara and stuff before and when my mom saw it she just said that it's ok to be "experimenting". She wears make up, and I secretly have some mascara, eyeshadow and concealer, but it's really old and I can never wear it because i don't know what she'll say. She seems unsure about the whole thing, and I really want to ask her if i can start wearing makeup, but I don't know how. PLEASE HELP!!
just ask her if she'll show you how to put make up on cause you want to start using it.. try telling her that you won't wear it all the time though and you'll only wear a little bit... that way she'll probably say yes and once she gets used to you wearing it you'll be able to wear it all the time worked for me and i started when i was 13 aswell xxxxx

Some people are blessed with natural blushing color and high cheekbones. For the rest of us we need a little help to achieve the same healthy glow. When you were a child you had a sweet pink tint to your cheeks, to keep that youthful tint most women use blush.
Why Use Blush?
Blush can perk up your face quickly and without effort. Some reasons to use blush are;
It will brighten your appearance, taking away the washed out pale look from spending a lot of time indoors.
Blush can also give the tired woman an instant bright eyed look even when you feel exhausted.
Choosing Your Color
Women are often confused over which color to buy when sopping for blush. To find your perfect color;
Try thinking about when you exercise or do something strenuous, that color that appears on your cheeks during is the color to match.
If you don't care to try the former then pinch your cheeks and wait a second or two. The color that arrives is the color of blush you need.
Choosing a Type of Blush
Once you have decided on your color it is time to pick what type of blush you prefer. All types of blush are fine to use, there are four different kinds;
Powder blushes are good because anyone can wear them. Powder blush is known for long lasting color.
Gel blushes provide more of a translucent shine, best for oily to normal skin types. You can apply with your fingertips and it dries quickly.
Cream blushes are thick in consistency but not overwhelming once they are dry. You can apply it with your fingertips, and is best for dry skin.
Tint blushes are like a cheek stain. You have to apply fast since they dry quickly and last until washed off. You want to be careful applying because there is no room for mistakes with tint blush.
The Right Time to Apply
It is important to apply makeup in the correct order so you can make the best of your beauty.
1.Apply foundation.
2.Apply powder.
3.Apply eye shadow.
4.Apply eye liner.
5.Apply mascara.
6.Apply lip liner and lipstick.
7.Apply blush.
You need to put all makeup on before applying blush so you know the amount needed to blend with your makeup.
Applying Blush
When applying blush it is helpful to know what shape your face is and apply accordingly. Follow these steps for the best look.
Follow the shape of your face and find the apple (the rounded part) of your cheek.
Dip your brush or applicator into the blush and tap it to shake of the excess.
Look into the mirror and smile.
Find the apple of your cheek once again and apply following the natural contour of your cheek down along to your hairline. Blend the color so there is no line; you want the look and color to seem natural.
Use a large brush and if you put on to much dab over with face powder.
Bring out your natural blush with these tips and let your beauty shine!

America's consciousness about environmental issues has gained tremendous momentum over the past several years. Evidence of global warming and scientific discoveries about the impact of greenhouses gasses on everything from the melting of the polar icecaps to the extinction of animal and plant species has spurred the U.S. and countries around the world to take action. The importance of research into lessening our dependence on fossil fuels and moving to alternative energy sources has been front-page news and is the subject of contentious political debates. In the meantime, many consumers have taken matters into their own hands by taking steps to reduce their carbon footprints and generally increasing their awareness of the impact humans have on our environment.
Animal Rights
Long before environmental issues became popular with the mainstream, however, animal rights activists sounded the alarm about routine practices that harm wildlife and farmed animals. The rise in popularity of faux fur, for example, was a direct result of efforts to educate the public about the cruelty of harvesting animals for their pelts. Similarly, animal rights groups shone the light on the practices of many cosmetics companies that routinely tested makeup on animals and caused untold anguish and pain.
Cruelty Free Makeup Brushes
Although women are increasingly aware of animal testing methods and choose to support cosmetics companies that are committed to cruelty free and animal free testing, women are often less educated about makeup brushes. The animal hair that forms the bristles of many makeup brushes is often purchased from the same suppliers that engage in cruel fur harvesting practices. In fact, all but about a dozen companies in the U.S. have animal hair makeup brushes in their lines.
Technology and Taklon
This fact is perplexing not only because the support of cruelty free products continues to grow, but also because technology is now so advanced that synthetic and natural fiber makeup brushes are superior to animal hair brushes in both functionality and durability. For example, Taklon is a synthetic fiber that is far superior to animal hair in makeup brushes. With animal hair, makeup, dead skin cells, and other contaminants can easily get caught in the cuticles of the animal hair, allowing bacteria to grow and making the brushes unsanitary. Taklon, on the other hand, doesn't have a hair cuticle and has antibacterial properties, making it much better for the skin.
In addition to its antibacterial properties, Taklon is superior to animal hair makeup brushes because of its versatility. Again, the cuticles in animal hair cause streaking when makeup brushes are used for creams or liquids. In contrast, Taklon can be created in textures ranging from extremely soft to very coarse, making it perfect for the application of powders, creams, and liquids.
Synthetic Brushes for Everyone
You don't have to be a vegan to buy cruelty free cosmetics and makeup brushes. As awareness of all environmental issues - from global warming to animal cruelty - increases, conscious consumers will increasingly choose to purchase products that reflect a solid commitment to preserving our planet and its species.

How many people know what soap really is? Several of the cleansing bars that you buy at the store, for example, are detergents-and not soaps at all. They are called syndet bars, or synthetic detergent bars. They are made from synthesized chemicals and are usually much harsher than soap. Detergents contain petroleum distillates rather than oil. On the other hand, true soap is made from natural oils (such as olive, coconut and palm) and is a gentle cleansing product more appropriate for use on skin than is detergent.
Soaps, unlike detergents, are made by combining sodium hydroxide or lye, oils and water in a process known as "Saponification". Some people may question the use of lye in handcrafted soap. The fact is that all soap is made with lye. What needs to be made clear is that once the process of saponification is complete, the lye and oil molecules have combined and chemically changed into soap and glycerin. There is no lye present in the finished bars of soap.
The oils in our soaps are put there for a specific purpose. The coconut oil creates a wonderful lather. The olive oil is used for a high quality, long lasting bar. Canola and Palm oil carry nutrients to the skin, and the safflower oil make a creamy bar.
Glycerin is a skin soothing emollient that adds to the goodness of handmade soap. In commercial soaps the glycerin is removed for sale to the cosmetic industry to sell separately, sometimes at a higher price than the soap itself! Glycerin is important to skin care because it is a humectant. Humectants draw moisture from the air, which in turn moisturize your skin. A whole 1/5 of a bar of our soap is glycerin.
Most soaps have artificial ingredients to scent or color. Some handcrafted soap is scented with fragrance oils. These are synthetic chemicals that are mixed together to imitate a particular scent. They have contributed in many cases to chemical sensitivity in some people. They also have no aromatherapy benefits. The scents in our soaps should come only from essential oils, which are steamed or pressed from plants. Essential oils are the fragrance emitting components of plants and are at the heart of aromatherapy. Not only do they smell good; they have many beneficial effects on the body, mind and spirit.
The coloring in our soap should come from nature as well. The petals of Lavender and Rose can be used. Earth Pigments can also be used, which are simply finely ground rocks. This makes the colors rich and earthy, rather than artificial looking.
