Gel nails are perhaps the most natural looking of all nail additions and are definitely worth considering if you want to have longer and stronger nails which appear to be your own. You create gel nails by applying layers of an acrylic gel to the surface of your nails. These layers then combine and set to produce a solid nail. To harden the nails, they are then normally placed under an ultraviolet light or even sometimes simply an ordinary room light.
It can be difficult to apply gel nails yourself, although it is quite possible. It's certainly a lot simpler to get a nail specialist to do the job for you, but if you do wish to try it yourself, the following is a method for using the acrylic overlay technique.
1. Buff the natural surface of your nail using a buffer to remove the shine. Don't overdo it! Then shape the free edge of the nail plate to the correct size corresponding to your finger nail. Use a medium-grade emery board to do this.
2. Apply a drop of nail adhesive to the nail tip whilst holding it at a 45 deg angle with the tip against the outer edge of your own nail. Then slide the nail tip back and press it down when in position. Hold it in position for a few seconds until it is held securely by the adhesive.
3. Apply a single coat of acrylic bonding agent to the surface of your own nail only. Don't get it on the acrylic tip.
4. A small amount of acrylic liquid and acrylic powder should be poured into separate glass containers. Using a brush, dip it into the acrylic liquid, then press it lightly against the dish to release any excess acrylic. Then sweep the tip of the brush across the surface of the white powder until it has picked up as much of the powder as it is able to carry, and the resultant ball is big enough to cover the entire nail. Then take the brush and place te tip with the acrylic ball in the center of your nail.
5. As quickly as you can, but without rushing, commence by pushing some acrylic into the cuticle region, working towards the sides and forwards to completely fill in your nail behind the acrtlic tip.
6. When completed and dry, tap your nail gently on the infilled area using the brush handle. The familiar clicking sound will indicate that the acrylic has fully set.
7. To finish, file and buff the nails as you require. Then apply a base coat varnish, some polish and a top coat. It is also a good idea also to apply a drop of cuticle oil to the cuticle.
Note that all nail enhancements will need filling every two to four weeks, depending upon how quickly your nails grow. This means filling in the area in front of the cuticle to blend in with the existing acrylic fill.
why are french tip nails more expensive than a regular full set?
i know at the salons the white tips are at least 2 dollars more to get done. why is this? i do nails and i know for a fact that white tips are a lot less work so i don't understand why they're more expensive. thanks =]
Maybe because for a regular full set you paint the whole nail, but for french tips they have to be careful about painting the tip white and making sure it looks proportional to your finger nail. Maybe they want customers to think that french tips require more work, therefore more money. Or they just want to rip us off.

Typical towns and cities in the UK are made up of so many different types of buildings, built at many different times - the fireplaces sizes within these buildings can vary almost as much as the buildings themselves. In one particular building e.g. a 19th century house, there may be different fireplace sizes - larger ones in the rooms downstairs and smaller ones upstairs. Brick / masonry fireplaces in a large number of homes do tend to fall within a certain popular range of sizes though e.g. between 32 and 36 inches wide, and between 25 and 29 inches high. Different fireplace opening sizes are likely to mean different sizes flue and chimney sizes - chimneys are generally masonry, or metal prefab.
Fireguards
Fireguards themselves serve two main purposes:
To protect the room, furnishings, and people from hot debris that may be ejected from the fire toward the room.
To prevent people (often children), pets, and furniture / household items form getting too near to, falling, or climbing into the fireplace and/or chimney.
Fireguards usually consist of an outer (metal) framework that fits flush / nearly flush (or on small legs) to the outer hearth surface. This outer framework often incorporates a decorative trim. Within this outer frame is a metal mesh, which is fine enough to stop debris from the fire entering the room, but still allows the heat of the fire to come through, and the fire to remain visible form the room for safety and aesthetic reasons. Most fireguards are removable / portable, and often incorporate a handle on the front or top to allow them to be removed from the fireplace in order to tend to it or clean it, or to store the fireguard away.
The range and variety of fireguards available reflect this broad scope in the differences in fireplace opening sizes. Fireguards are available in a number of different styles e.g. rounded / curved, square / angular, single piece or multiple panelled, decorative tops, incorporated panels, or plain. Different finishes are available e.g. black, pewter, brass, powder coating.
For Large Fires
Large fireplace are likely to require fireguards at the upper end of the scale e.g. 29 or 30 inches high (or more), and similar in width. These aren't the main standard fireguard sizes. Large multiple panelled fireguards could be used in this case e.g. a fireguard with a wide central panel and 2 end panels, or 4 panelled fireguard could be stretched out across the from of a large fireplace - it needs to cover the area and be stable enough when extended. A better solution would be to choose the particular style like for the wide range available, and get a custom made solution. This will therefore combine the best aesthetic, practical and safety features.
Today, there are essentially fire screens for different purposes, or for a combined purpose. Fire guards have been commonplace for many years, and other types of fire (gas electric) and the wide use of coal fires in the modern age have made fire screens predominantly decorative - some fire screens are not designed to be used when the fire is lit, but merely to hide the fireplace / provide a pleasant aesthetic, and consistent design feature in front of the fireplace.

Depending on your skills you may be able to build a mixer yourself, but knowing the quantities involved and the viscosity would be needed to give specific information.

Recently, I was diagnosed with Neurotic Excoriations, known also as uncontrollable face picking. I have had this problem for over seven years now. Initially, I thought it was acne but it wasn't till a year back, I really began noticing the problem. I have had to use a concealer for over six years. For the longest time, I tried denying it but soon realized how bad my face, neck, back and legs were scarred up. And it was then I decided, it was about time I stopped picking my skin and it was a long fight back ever since.
For hours I would stand in front of the mirror and pick my face. Also, I would constantly pick my face while studying, reading or talking on the phone. That is when I decided to clip my nails really short and decided to take down the small mirrors and cover the big mirrors with blankets or towels. I disposed off all the pins, needles, tacks, etc that would otherwise substitute for the long gone nails.
One I stopped picking my skin was by staying out all day for the first couple of weeks. I would get dressed in the morning and go out immediately. I knew I would not face pick in the bathroom at KFC! While at home, I kept myself busy either by typing at my computer or watching television. I cultivated the habit of drawing while watching a movie so that I had a piece of paper in front of me to keep my hands busy.
I would wash my face and put on lotion right away and eventually I stopped picking my skin. Also, I keep the lights off when I was at night, before going to bed. I found it useful to have dim lights in my bathroom.
I felt powerful when I took charge and control of my own life. Admitting the problem to myself and to others helped me a great deal and finally I achieved what I wanted to. I stopped picking my skin!
Concealer for under eyes without having to put powder over it?

Tricks of the Trade
A simple way for keeping your foundation on as long as possible is to first apply concealer and foundation as normal, wait a few seconds, and then blot gently with a tissue. The tissue should absorb excess oils and leave behind the pigment. If you tend to remove too much foundation with this method, apply a bit more than you normally would before blotting.
Loose powder should be lightly applied with a large brush to set foundation. Applying powder onto the skin with a puff as opposed to a brush may actually cause too much of the powder to collect on the skin, ultimately causing it to sweat more than usual and appear shiny in photos.
For a perfect application of blush, choose a brush that's approximately the size of the apples of your cheeks. Pick up some color, just enough to be visible on the tip of the brush, and tap onto the cheeks, blending toward the temples. After applying, gently blending with a clean sponge will ensure the blush doesn't appear to be resting on top of the skin, but rather as a natural enhancement of the skin's color.
The tried and true trick of applying powder to the lips before lipstick, blotting and then repeating is the best way to ensure lasting coverage. First coat the lips with powder, fill in the entire lip area with lip liner, and then apply the lip color. Blot the lips then add another layer of powder before the final coat of color.
To brighten the eyes, try a soft white color on the brow bone, the inner corners of the eyes, and just above and below the lash line. To make eyes look larger, a light taupe color or sandy shade on the crease of the eyelid will do the job. A soft cotton swab is useful for blending eyeliner, and eyelash curlers should always be used prior to applying mascara.
