In the US, literally thousands of people are suffering from adverse effects and reactions from cosmetic products. Decorative Contact lenses
You may want your eyes twinkle like your idol superstar but do you know that wearing decorative contact lenses can snatch your eyesight?
Decorative contact lenses carry the same risks as corrective contact lenses, including
conjunctivitis (pink eye);
corneal (the eye's outermost layer) ulcers;
corneal abrasion;
and vision impairment or blindness.
Further, sharing of contact lenses prescribed for one person can also lead to infections, abrasions, allergic reaction or blindness.
Food & Drug Administration (FDA) of America has received reports of corneal ulcers associated with the wearing of decorative contact lenses, especially when worn overnight.

Anti-Wrinkle Cream
"Age doesn't bring you wisdom, it brings you wrinkles." How true the words spoken by American actress, Estelle Getty. For years women all over the world are using the anti-wrinkles creams to look young and stay beautiful - to perennial despair.
Formally, collagen used in anti-wrinkle is crucial to keeping your skin as smooth as silk. Unfortunately as the years go by, collagen also ages and shrinks, contributing to wrinkles.
Lanolin, promoted as being able to 'penetrate the skin better than other oils', was found to contain pesticides, dioxins and known carcinogens.
Collagen, lanolin, liposomes, and elastin in the cream cannot get rid of wrinkles. They only help to moisturize and merely "make-up" up the skin to create unconvincingly youthful appearance. They cannot slow down or reverse the skins ageing process.
Just as eating bone would not repair a broken arm, applying an anti-ageing cream on your face won't repair or remake saggy skin. And vegetarians take note: Most collagen and elastin is waste from the meat industry!
Foundation
Many liquid foundation make-ups contain mineral oil, a suspected human carcinogen (cancer-causing agent). Mineral oil (classed as a petrochemical pollutant) can have negative effects on hormones and the skin's ability to breathe, attract moisture and detoxify.
It can also slow down cell renewal and causes premature ageing. In fact sunscreens produced from mineral oil may promote skin cancer as well as colon and breast cancer. However, no cosmetic manufacturers put health warnings on their products, and in the US, the FDA does not require this information to be on packaging.
Lipstick
The most toxic of all cosmetics.
Some lipsticks contain substances that can cause cancer, deformities and stillbirths. Many women also experience dryness, chapping, cracked and peeling lips from using lipsticks. Other problems that have been reported are inflamed eyes skin rashes, burns, numbness, swollen gums and respiratory problems.
The cause of the problems may be the perfume oils used, any of the colours, indelible dyes, vehicles for the dyes, or some of the other ingredients in the lipstick. It also contains lanolin, which can cause allergic reactions.
Nail Polish
A toxic product which should have a warning label. Contains phenol, toluene and xylene. Its basic ingredient is a formaldehyde resin which can cause discoloration and bleeding under the nails.
Phenol is suspected of causing cancer in humans, it can cause swelling, peeling, burning or breaking out in hives and pimples, if it comes into contact with skin.
Toluene is easily absorbed through the skin but eliminated slowly from the body. It can cause fatigue and weakness. Chronic exposure to toluene may bring in irritation of the mucous membrane, headache vertigo (giddiness) nausea and loss of appetite.
Nail polish removers are just as harmful. Its primary ingredient is acetone, a solvent which can cause your nails to become brittle and split, and can cause skin rashes to develop on your fingers.
The fumes from nail polish remover, when inhaled, can irritate your lungs and make you feel light-headed.

I don't have to even come into that close of contact with him, and he has almost an instant reaction, we first thought it was spf in face products, but after cutting all of those out, we are now thinking it's the makeup.. At one point, when people saw a tattoo on a stranger, it made them apprehensive. In today's society, tattoos have become much more mainstream, and chances are you know someone who has a tattoo. Or perhaps, you are interested in getting one yourself. How do you know if a tattoo artist is following proper safety procedures to ensure you do not get an infection from the tattooing process?
First of all, if you walk into a tattoo studio and it does not look and smell clean, chances are it isn't. Walk right back out of the shop immediately. Every tattoo artist should start out with sterile supplies and surfaces. Surfaces should be cleaned and sanitized before and after EVERY procedure. Last, but not least, the client's skin should also be kept clean to prevent infection, and in rare cases where it is required, the artist should be protected from transmittable diseases.
Here is a list of procedures that your artist should follow to ensure the sanitation and safety of their clients.
1) Use an autoclave to sterilize all reusable equipment. Once the instruments come out of the autoclave, they should be properly sealed in an autoclave bag, which is opened in front of the client before use.
2) The artist should scrub up. This will include using an antibacterial skin cleanser and using proper medical scrubbing such as scrubbing to the elbows for several minutes. They should use disposable towels to dry off and also shut off the running water so their skin does not touch the faucet. They should then put on rubber gloves.
3) The work area should be full cleaned and sanitized. This normally consists of using a heavy medical germicide that kills all types of germs. These are usually antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral and are quite potent so they should be used with care. Work areas should include all surfaces such as counters, trays, tables, power sources, ink trays (if they are not autoclaveable) and all cords or cables.
4) The artist should now be setting up their tattoo equipment. This should include placing plastic covers over the sanitized cords, as well as a cover over the tattoo machine to prevent cross contamination of any sort. Set up will also include the set up of ink supplies.
5) Lastly, before ink touches skin, the skin should be properly sanitized. This will include wiping down the skin with a variety of mediums depending on the artists choice. This can range from rubbing alcohol to green soap to a specialized antibacterial cleanser.
Every tattoo artist should adhere to this basic sanitization list. Every artist is different; however, every artist should have safety and cleanliness in mind. As you can see keeping sanitary conditions in tattooing is painstaking work, but it is well worth the effort when you consider the safety of everyone involved.

MAC is exspensive. For instance, a foundation or powder will probably run you at least $30 - $40.
The best way to learn is to go to make up counters (MAC, Lancom, Clinique) and ask for them to show you. They are professionals, and will walk you through everything they are doing. That is normally free, because they are hoping you will buy the products afterwards (but you dont have to).

There are some who wouldn't be caught dead in public without make up and then there are some who refuse to wear make up at all and prefer the natural look.
Some people have told me they like to let their skin breathe. Well don't worry about it! There's plenty of skin on your body, let the rest of it do the breathing! Your skin is fed from the inside and won't suffer so long as you make sure you cleanse at the end of the day.
But you can actually create a natural look using make up. That way you can have that clean fresh appearance while being able to disguise those flaws that you (and probably only you!) dislike.
So let's have a basic lesson on how to apply make up to create a fresh natural look.
Natural make up techniques
We'll look at base (foundation), concealer, powder and blush this time and in part 2 go on to how to apply make up for the eyes and mouth.
In the case of applying make up the term "less is more" definitely applies! If your going to enjoy a big night out on the town that's different - use your bright eye shadow, lippie and glittery mascara. You can put on a bit more foundation too, to create a flawless palate on which to "paint" your masterpiece!
But during the day whether you're at work, at home or hitting the shops you don't want to look like Coco the clown! Too much makeup can actually appear very ageing.
So let's start with a really clean face. For daytime use a moisturizing sunscreen or sun block. If your skin is oily use a non oily one, if it's very dry use both moisturizer and sun block.
Make up base (or foundation) comes in many types, liquid, stick, cream etc. Mostly this is a matter of preference although the stick or "solid" base usually has a better coverage and will hide things like broken veins almost completely. The liquid bases have a lighter coverage and will give a more natural look.
If your skin is oily, the dry compact bases work well, or opt for an oil free liquid one. Dry skins like the cream bases which give a moist 'dewy' appearance.
Make sure the base you choose matches the colour of your skin as closely as possible. Don't try and create a darker sun tanned look with your base, there are bronzing powders specially created for this. Go outside the store when selecting different colours and make sure they look ok in natural light. It's best to test on your jaw line rather your wrist.
Don't buy pre-packaged make-up bases from the supermarket, you'll not be able to try them on!
Concealers are great for that natural look, you can cover blemishes and broken veins with a concealer without having to use a heavy base all over your face.
Concealers also come in different forms but they all do the same job. You can buy them with built in sunscreen and also with anti bacterial additives if you like. Try to find one just slightly lighter than your skin tone.
Pat the concealer onto the area you wish to cover. Don't rub hard or it will disappear into your pores. Make sure it is blended well and has no "tide marks".
Now dot the base onto your face. Use the sheerest one you can. Don't use too much at first, you can always add more.
Blend really well. Some make up artists recommend a damp sponge, but fingers work just as well. Make sure you blend into the hairline, sides of face, around the nose and particularly the jaw line. Don't just stop at the jaw, your face will look like a mask. Just blend away to nothing before your throat, that way you won't get make-up stains on your collar.
Powder is optional but I like to use it as it "sets" your make-up and absorbs excess oil. Press the powder onto your face with a puff or you may prefer to use a powder brush. After a couple of minutes brush the powder off using light downward strokes.
Next apply blusher. Brush this lightly on the apple of your cheeks and up towards the temples. Don't put too much on your brush, you can always go over it again. If you are using a cream blusher, apply this before powder. Dot onto the apple of your cheeks and blend in up to the temples. Blend really well!
Now for my special tip. Place a cool damp (not wet) face washer over your face and press very gently. this will give the whole face a fresh look - Gorgeous!

Do you dread doing laundry? Are the piles growing out of control? Putting it off won't make it go away. Let's face it - dirty laundry is a fact of life. But doing laundry becomes less of a chore when you have an efficient, pleasing room to do it in. If you want to create a laundry room that not only looks good but also works well, here are some tips to help.
Purge First
Before making any attempt to organize the laundry room, do a thorough purge of old, unused supplies. Toss out misshapen hangers, the box of hardened laundry detergent and all those socks without partners you've been saving in hopes of a reunion. Any items that don't belong in a laundry room can be placed in a 'move elsewhere' box for now and distributed to the appropriate room later.
Creating Zones
Consider the various tasks that have to be done and create proper places for these activities. In addition to a washer, dryer and sink, you'll need an area to sort, air-dry and iron. You'll also need a convenient storage area for supplies.
Sorting Strategies
• Save time and trouble by keeping a hamper for dirty clothes in each bedroom. Lightweight hampers with handles can be carried to the laundry room easily. Vented hampers let clothes breathe to prevent mildew.
• Use a laundry sorter to divide dirty clothes into three basic groups: whites, darks/colours and delicates/hand washables. Invest in a durable sorter; one with canvas bags that hang from a metal frame will hold up well.
• To avoid the missing sock syndrome and make it easier to distribute clean socks to their rightful owners, give each family member a colour-coded mesh laundry bag for his or her dirty socks. Wash and dry the socks while they're still in the bag. Then, deposit the bag of clean socks in each person's laundry basket.
Drying Delicately
To air-dry delicate items, use a retractable clothes line, a folding drying rack, or a shower curtain tension rod hung over the washer and dryer.
Ironing With Ease
If you have a front-loading washer and dryer, install a countertop over the machines for folding clothes. If you want to use it as a handy ironing surface, build the countertop out of MDF, glue some foam on top and cover it with heat-resistant sailcloth. Alternatively, you can install a hinge-top table that hangs from the wall and folds out of the way when not in use; hang the ironing board and iron on an over-the-door hanger to save space.
Storing Strategies
• Store laundry supplies in built-in cabinets or shelving over the machines or in a near-by freestanding unit. For both convenience and safety, make sure you install these at a height where you are not reaching too high: no more than about 6 inches above shoulder height.
• If space is tight, slide a skinny rolling caddy in the gap between the washer and dryer to store laundry supplies.
• Use wicker baskets or clear plastic bins to house dust rags, mesh garment bags and dryer sheets. Designate a basket for stain removal products and sewing supplies (for quick repairs). Group items by type and label each container for easy access.
• A mini-sized wastebasket on a shelf is a handy place to keep lint from the dryer or used dryer sheets until garbage day.
