You only get one chance to pitch a journalist on your research - and it is extremely important to get it right the first time! 1) Know the basics before you pitch:
a. Methodology: How was my survey conducted? Online, by phone, or in person?
b. Sample Size: How many people did we interview?
c. Audience: Who, precisely, did we survey? Was it Americans in general? Moms? Know exactly who you reached out to.
d. Confidence Level: How confident can you be in the data? If your confidence level is 95%, it means that 19 times out of 20, your survey results would come back within the margin of error.
e. Margin of Error: Simply put, this measures the accuracy of your data. If your margin of error is 3%, and your confidence level is 95%, it means that 19 times out of 20, the survey data is going to come back within 3% of the results you got in this poll.
2) Practice makes perfect: Familiarize yourself with the data before you pick up the phone or write a release. Read and reread your NewsWorthy Analysis; practice your pitch. You'll be much more fluid on the phone.
3) Keep the glory for your client: This isn't your survey, it's your client's survey. You are there to provide third party validation; but mention your client whenever possible. It's their study. Remove logos from documents when possible and keep the glory for your client!
4) Tell the story first - wrap the data in later: Journalists write stories - so give them one to tell. Throwing numbers at them makes the story hard to understand. Don't tell them that 98% of Americans brush their teeth every morning and 77% floss - tell them that Americans care greatly about oral hygiene!
5) Focus on the best stats - don't overcomplicated! Don't barrage journalists with numbers - think about what's most likely to interest them, and lead with only the best stats. Simple and strong is always better; journalists don't react to sheer volume.
6) Respondents are real people: Try not to refer to the people who took the survey as "respondents" or "participants" - they are fast food eaters, electronics shoppers, or stay at home moms - real people.
7) Make it easy on the reporter: Include the methodological notes and the dates your study was fielded at the bottom of your press release. It cuts down on the number of questions that need to be asked by the reporter!
Customize your releases: A lot of surveys have data that both a Good Housekeeping writer and a Wall Street Journal reporter would be interested in; often, that isn't the SAME data. Think about your audience, and customize your materials and pitch accordingly.
9) Share the knowledge: We recommend using brand spokespeople to represent your research - but make sure they understand how to talk about it too! Don't get them into trouble talking about things they don't understand.
10) Call an expert market research company: Experts are here to help. To be successful, you need to prepare the best that you can and call in the cavalry when necessary. Eyebrow Tweezing: To minimize the pain, numb the eyebrow area first either with a baby's teething pain preparation or numbing toothache preparation or even a little ice.
The hair can be softened first with a hair conditioner or shaving cream.
Steam your eyebrows with a hot washcloth for five minutes or tweeze right after a hot shower to open the pores so the hair comes out more easily.
Invest in a professional pair of tweezers so you have a clean, sharp pair each time. If you are serious about tweezing, buying a good quality pair is essential. (See resource box below)
Use natural light wherever possible.
First clean up the area between the eyebrows by plucking any stray hairs.
Pull the skin taut and remove hairs as close as possible to the root.
Pluck in the direction of the growth.
Shape your eyebrows by plucking from underneath rather than from above to create a natural arch.
To close the pores of the skin after plucking, use an astringent or soothe irritated skin by applying warm petroleum jelly.
Shaping Your Eyebrows: 3 Steps
First thin the eyebrow, then slowly define the arch. The arch should reach the highest point above the middle of the iris.
To determine where the eyebrows should begin and end, hold a pencil vertically against the nose. Where the pencil meets the eyebrow above the nose should be the starting point.
Next, with the pencil still held against the nose, tilt it diagonally so that it rests against the far corner of the eye. That is the outer point where the eyebrow should end.
Changing the Shape Of Your Eyebrows
To avoid tweezing into a shape you later regret, first use a white eyeliner pencil to color in the areas under your eyebrows which you think should be plucked.
If you don't like the shape, remove the white eyeliner and redraw. Once your are satisfied with the shape, tweeze the hairs in the white area.

It would be strange to wear your towel when you go into the water, and I don't recommend it. But when I've been to onsen I noticed that many bathers managed to be quite modest while getting in and out of the baths or walking between baths.
There's a kind of towel people use that's about as wide as a hand towel but longer. Women will tuck the corners of the towel under their arms so it hangs down and covers their front down to the legs. I don't know what men do, but I'm sure they can find some way to hold their towel in front of them. When you get in the bath you can put your towel around your shoulders, on top of your head, or by the side of the bath for when you get out again.
It's not as awkward to be nude at the baths as you might think. Everyone there is naked, and they're all there just to have a bath and relax, not to look at other people.
Oh, and you do want to be very clean and well scrubbed before you get in the bath. Don't just rinse off, really wash yourself well with soap.

The Fins:
Swimming is a physical exercise that would require a lot of energy and oxygen. Divers need to conserve energy in the best possible way. Fins are used in this manner by providing a diver means to swim more effortlessly underwater.
Fins providing maximum propulsion through the water are large flexible blades that are fitted to the feet.
Two types of fins:
Strap fins have a foot pocket with a strap that fits around the heel and are worn with boots. Shoe fin fits onto the bare foot like a slipper.
Protective clothing necessary:
A skin suit is used in warmest water. It protects the body from cuts either from equipment or from brushing against corals and rocks.
Wet suit provides thermal protection allowing the body to warm against cooler water temperatures. They come in long or short arms and legs and are available in a range of thicknesses.
Wet suits are made of neoprene. This material allows water to flush through it, holding it against the body.
The semi-dry suit is designed to ingress trapped water and is warmed by the body. It is similar to a wet suit except it has seals around the neck, wrists and ankles and gives greater protection.
Lastly is the dry suit which is designed for cold water diving conditions. This suit does not allow any water to enter thus the body inside remains dry. It has built-in boots and is sealed around the wrists and neck.
Dry suit, either made from neoprene or from a trilaminate membrane, is the usually used by more experienced divers. Neoprene gloves and hoods are added for extra warmth.
